I hope all my friends and family in Texas and the surrounding gulf cities are staying safe in this crazy weather and flooding. Keeping everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey in my thoughts and prayers. I don't know how your grocery shopping experience was earlier this week but it was super chaotic for me. With everyone scrambling for water and nonperishable goods it was slim pickings by the time I went shopping.

Fortunately, I was prepared for the hurricane with these grocery staples on hand!

This list of food makes it easy to prepare balanced meals with whatever you have on hand! I usually make a Quinoa Cucumber Bean Salad with Baked Chicken Breast and a plant-based Tofu Veggie Stir Fry, perfect for my vegan and vegetarian friends. Hurricane Harvey Update 8/30/17: My family and I are doing well and have been fortunate enough to be safe, dry, and healthy.

Houston welcomed me with open arms when I moved back six months ago and I am honored to call this city my home again. Harvey's impact has been devastating but the outpouring love and support our community has shown has been absolutely humbling. Find out which shelters near you need help and what they need here and here

Remember, people have lost everything they have please be mindful when donating resources to shelters. They don't need professional clothing, prom dresses, or high heels. They need clean clothes, undergarments, toiletries, wipes, diapers/adult diapers, medications (allergy meds, Tylenol, Advil, glucose monitors and strips, etc.), feminine hygiene products, clean water, non-perishable food etc.

Cash donations are always appreciated. If you're looking for places to donate to please consider the following organizations:
1. Houston Food Bank
2. Texas Diaper Bank
3. Corpus Christi Food Bank
4. Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund
5. Islamic Relief USA
6. Houston SPCA
7. United Way of Greater Houston
8. YouCaring Fundraiser by JJ Watt
9. Lone Star Legal Aid
10. Houston Pets Alive

And of course, Houston was not the only city affected by Harvey. Please consider donating your time & efforts to the surrounding Gulf Cities that also need your help!
